Wacky Wednesdays – Hounds!

CC_WackyWednesdays_HOUNDS - TITLE PLATE

For this week’s edition of Wacky Wednesdays, I finally wrap up my coverage of the Wacky Packages Halloween 2012 Postcard set, with a parody of the Peter Paul Mounds bar – the delightful Hounds!

Illustrated by Matthew Kirscht, Hounds is another great Wacky from the Halloween postcard series.  The design is full of nice touches as well as prominently featuring a wolfman character, which makes it an instant classic in my book.

Here’s a close-up look at the parody itself:

With a classic Wacky character, the key elements of the wrapper play into the werewolf theme;  a coconut becomes a full man-in-the-moon, PeterPaul becomes PeterMaul, and “Dark Chocolate” becomes “Full Moon Flavor”.

Hounds is a parody of a contemporary Mounds bar, so here’s a current wrapper to compare:

I would like to point out that this is the second time in the history of Wacky Packages that Peter Paul’s Mounds has been parodied.  The first time it occurred was all the way back in 1973’s original Wacky Packages series 5, and the parody was called “Pounds”.  I covered it for my May 9th, 2012 edition of Wacky Wednesdays.

And that’s everything I have to share for today’s post.

See you next time!
