No one on Earth remembers this anymore but me (and the heck with all of you numbnuts) – but it was a real thing and I do remember!
For about a year in the 1960s I was addicted to a candy called “Hot Bites”. They came in a bag just like “Sour Bites”, and may even have been made by the same company as a variation of their “Sour Bites” product (see jpeg).
“Hot Bites” were red / pink and came as a dry tablet, kind of like a big, chewable kid’s aspirin. There was a cartoon animal on the bag, and I think it was a red or pink horse or pony.
I once ate so many I got sick! Way back then I could buy five bags for a quarter at the corner store.
So, like I said, to heck with all of you for acting these things never existed – well, at least all of you over 65 who grew up in a major American city and ate candy.
And to heck with all of you so-called “old candy” experts! You’re are NOT so expert as you think.
    “Hot Bites” did exist!

      Hey John,

You’re right, they DID exist. In the years since publishing this article, I have in fact heard of them and found corroborating evidence of their existence. Thanks for sharing your personal memories of them!
