Topps’ 1974 Lineup! For Fun and Profit!

Today’s post marks the 200th entry for CollectingCandy.com, so I thought it was appropriate to share something a bit expansive.  With that thought, today I’ll be presenting a very cool promotional brochure Topps provided to buyers picturing their 1974 product lineup.  It’s a great piece with several photos of things I’ve not seen anywhere else.

The front and back covers of the fold out brochure feature what you might expect, with an overview, and a checklist:

And finally, here’s the best part – the collection of photos.  It’s what makes this brochure pure gold to me:

A lot of those images are pretty small, so I’m going to provide closeups today as well.  Many of the products on this collected image will be the topic of future posts here on the site, so I won’t spend too much time discussing them today.  Consider this all a bit of an extended teaser for goodies yet to come.

Okay, let’s get to some of the highlights:

Bubble Gum Shake, Gum Berries Raspberry,  Shazam Fruit Beverage

Big Buddy Watermelon, Candy Pennies, Name Droppers, Gumniks, Bozo Gum, Bazooka roll, Snappy Gator

Block Busters Gum, Big Mouth On-a-Stick

Topps Gold Rush Gum

Bazooka, Hot Bazooka, Cherry Bozo

Big Bazooka

Pretty neat to see all of those classic 70’s products lined-up, don’t you think?

I hope you enjoyed this look at a great piece of candy ephemera and historical reference.  I also hope you are enticed by the teaser of what will likely be several different posts based upon the products featured in this brochure.  It’s going to be fun!

And that’s everything for today.  See you next time!

This is so cool! Do you own any of these in your collection? Are Gold Rush and Bazooka the only products shown here that are still manufactured?

      Kerry,

I own some pieces related to a few of the items in this flyer, yes.

Actually, only Bazooka is still a Topps product. Gold Rush gum hasn’t been produced since the 1980’s. There are several products very similar to Gold Rush, still on the market, but produced by other companies.

A-HA! I’d asked about the plastic tubes in the 1974 line-up picture on the Big Buddy post. Lifelong mystery solved. I have wondered why on earth I’d checked discarded shotgun shells for gum as a small 70s child wandering around on my own. It’s because of Bubble Gum shake. I must have confused that container with a shotgun shell. Which is good, because it really looks like a prescription bottle. So luckily I was upending shells, which usually contained dirt, instead of pill bottles!
