A Fun Friday Exclusive Premiere – 1990’s Hot Heads!

Today I get to unveil another CollectingCandy.com exclusive premiere.  This is a piece of packaging for a candy item you cannot see anywhere else on the internet.   It’s a really cool cinnamon treat from the folks who brought us Air Heads – it’s Van Melle’s Hot Heads!

It’s always fun to uncover these lost little confectionery masterpieces.  With this being a cinnamon candy, it has become one of my immediate favorites.  Not only is it cinnamon, but the graphics take the happy Air Heads balloon mascots and give them a cool devilish visage.  Here it is:

Hot Heads – Cinnamon AirHeads – candy package wrapper – 1990

I love the mascots on this one as well as the tag line used, “a flame of flavor”.  I think the various elements of this wrapper make for a fantastic bit of packaging.

I don’t know how long these lasted, but my guess is not more than a year or two.  I’ve not been able to find any other mentions of them in my research.  It’s too bad, as I think a hot cinnamon Air Heads candy would be pretty tasty.   Does anyone out there remember these?

Until I discover more data on them, I’ll leave you with this: Hot Heads were a nearly forgotten spin-off of the Air Heads brand, and I’m excited to be able to share them with you today.

And that wraps up today’s post.

See you next time!

I remember them very well. My favorite candy, wish they were still around. I ate them for about three years. They came in the giant size and I ate them every other day.

  3. Suzanne says:

I remember these! I loved them and remember them the same as Clint said…giant size. I used to buy them with my allowance. I sure wish they’d bring them back.

  4. Jaymie Johnson says:

This was the best candy ever… I remember going to the corner store and buying them by the handful… I wonder y they stopped making them. I have been looking fur them ever since.

  5. Alan says:

I loved hot heads! These were around for several years in approximately the late eighties/early nineties. The first time I saw these was the first time I saw Air heads. They were 15 cents per piece where I lived. Hot heads were superior. I didn’t really care for Air heads at the time. It is a shame they stopped making them. They were delicious! If I remember correctly, the more you ate, the hotter they got.

  6. Tonie says:

I loved these! I would get them 4 for a dollar at the roller tree. I would
Buy 5 bucks worth and eat them until I got sick. It is true they came in large bars (about 3 or 4 air head size bars worth). I don’t care much for the fruit flavored air heads, bring these back. I would buy them by the case!

  7. Pam says:

Ahh, looking for why they stopped seeking this candy brought me here! I use to love hotheads. Was eating them almost every day in the nineties while in middle school. I use to buy them at Pic n Save (Now known as Big Lots) by the box!! Miss them so much!
