Target’s Halloween Private Label Candy for 2016! (and 2015, too!)

When Halloween sections start arriving in stores, one of the first places I enjoy checking out is Target.  They always have a big variety of offerings (with exclusives like this year’s Boo-terschotch M&M’s) and they also bring out a nice selection of their own private label goodies that share a common Halloween thematic and look.  2016 was no different, so let’s take a look!

Before getting to Target’s 2016 private label Halloween, I should mention that during our 2014 Halloween Countdown two years ago, I did a piece on their releases for that season which you can check out here.  I also never got around to covering Target’s private label Halloween goodies during last year’s 2015 countdown, so I’m remedying that with a double helping today.

So let’s kick this off with a look at Target’s 2015 Halloween private label from last year, first:

My favorite thing to pick up from the Target Halloween private label is always the bagged gummies, and in 2015 they presented an absolutely gorgeous range of packaging for them.

Here are those beautiful packs emptied and flattened:

Really love those.   Now let’s get to this year!

More than just a place where you can find great exclusive Halloween private label each year, Target really rolls out the Halloween-themed candy in general.

For their Halloween private label this year, Target seems to have gone back to a look more reminiscent of their 2014 offerings, at least to my eye.  I was a bigger fan of the 2015 design direction they took, but I still appreciate what they’re doing this year as well.

As I did for their 2015, this year I picked up their entire private label Halloween gummies assortment for complete archiving.

It’s notable that in the past, Target’s seasonal private label gummies packs featured the Target name and logo on the back of the packs, but not this year.  And this is something I first noticed during the 2016 Valentine’s season with regard to Target’s private label candy.  The private label gummies packaging now features the name of a different company on the back, that of Maud Borup Inc.  It’s possible that Maud Borup has been producing their private label lines all along, and for some reason the indicia crediting change was made.  That, or Maud Borup is new to Target’s seasonal private label lineup and Target has off-loaded some of that responsibility.  I can only speculate but whatever the case, it’s a change I’ve noted and will try to find out the actual reasoning behind it sometime down the road.

Here are this year’s gummies packs:

Target - Spooky Skulls Gummy Candy - 4.5oz Halloween candy package - October 2016

Target - Bue Goo Bugs - 4.5oz Halloween candy package - October 2016

And that’s everything I’ve got to share on this year’s Target Halloween private label candy offerings.  But I do have one more piece to show you, and it might be the neatest thing I reveal today.

Digging into my deep archives for the Countdown this month, I found a piece of Target private label Halloween candy packaging dating back over a decade – from the 2005 season.  It’s the only item I have for that period, so I thought I should include it as an epilogue in today’s post.  Here it is!

Target - I Want Sour - Smarties - 5.75 oz Halloween candy package - October 2005

Wish I could hop back into a 2005 time machine and grab up the rest of that years’ goodies, but at least I have this one.  It’s pretty slick.

And that’s everything for today’s entry in CollectingCandy.com’s Countdown to Halloween!  See you next time!

I love the spider character that Target has used on signs in recent years. I keep hoping that they’ll put him on a wrapper, but I’ve not seen one yet.
