Brach’s Beautiful Fall Chocolate Promotion Packet from 1972!

CC_Brachs 1972 Fall Promotion TITLE PLATE

Since acquiring the files of a former Brach’s salesman earlier this year, I’ve been working to document and preserve everything he saved.   Previously I’ve posted the contents of a 1971 Brach’s Halloween sales packet as well as materials related to Brach’s 1972 Easter promotion.  Today I’m excited to share the various marketing and sales materials used in support of Brach’s 1972 Fall chocolate promotion.  It’s a lot of great stuff, so make the jump to take a look.

From what I’ve gathered, during the early 1970’s Brach’s would routinely send out special folders to their sales force containing all manner of paperwork and promotional materials for whatever sales event was coming up.  Today I’ll be revealing the full contents of a folder that was marked as Brach’s Fall Chocolate Promotion for 1972.

The first part of the folder’s contents I’ll be sharing is a gorgeous twelve-page full-color catalog.  Labeled as Brach’s Pure Chocolates and Fresh Candies, it’s filled with lovely full-color imagery of packaging you won’t find anywhere else but here, so let’s get to it.

Though the entire catalog is filled with items I’d never seen before (and would love to add to my collection) I was particularly delighted to see these two Brach’s Barrels packages:

I think that catalog is just amazing.  I cannot get over the range of product that Brach’s offered back then.

Beyond the color materials in the folder were also many typed documents.  Among them was one typed sheet announcing new product introductions.

A big part of Brach’s 1972 Fall Chocolate Promotion was their prime time advertising push, which is described in this document:

The following over-sized fold-out brochure showcases some of the television shows that Brach’s had purchased ad space on for the Fall.  In addition, it features a series of colorful photos of point-of-purchase display setups that were available as part of the chocolate promotion.

The folder contains a number of other black-and-white printed sales documents, from profit calculator sheets to detailed price lists.  It’s 27 pages of a material containing a lot of information, so rather than include it in the main body of today’s post, I’m going to add it at the end for anyone curious enough to pour over it.  I find the price lists especially interesting as they give you an idea of the depth and range of product that Brach’s offered at the time.  It’s huge!

I continue to be delighted every time I look over these materials as it’s the kind of stuff I’d simply never encountered before.   I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing it and catching a glimpse of so many colorful pieces of confectionery history that haven’t been seen in so very long.   And that’s everything I’ve got to say on today’s topic.  See you next time!

[Note: Don’t forget that the many pages of supplemental materials will be included after the close of today’s post.]

  1. Darryl Heine says:

From what I read/notice in this brochure, did American Home Products at the 1972 time own a share in E.J. Brach and Sons?

    • dig sandy says:

Yes, AHP owned Brach’s outright. Interestingly, they also owned companies that made foods in kitchen pantries (Chef Boyardee, Pam, Jiffy Pop, Crunch ‘n Munch, Gulden’s), kitchen drawers (EKCO utensils), under the sink (Woolite, Black Flag, Easy-Off, Old English, Wizard air freshener, 3-in-One oil), medicine cabinets (Anacin, Dristan, Preparation H, Primatene Mist, Anbesol), and more.

  2. Brandon says:

Salesman stuff is always fascinating to see. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Marcy says:

That floral box on the first page is amazing!

  4. carol says:
